FROM IN TO OUT, HOW TO FACE THE WORLD ......LOOKING FRESHER AND MORE HYDRATED.

…Looking fresher and more hydrated.

After being in, it’s time to go out looking fresh and more hydrated. From in to out, how to face the world looking fresher and more hydrated.

The best ways to lock in moisture post-lockdown

Quarantined. Confinement. Lockdown. Whatever you call it, we’ve been locked in and feeling locked up for 10 long weeks.

But now that we’re finally able to open our doors, walk freely into parks and restaurants, it’s time to face the world looking and feeling our best.

And to look our best, we really need to quench our skin’s thirst for a deep inner hydration and that dewy glow that shows we’re happy to be out and about once again.

So how do we get the best hydration?

It’s in the skin

The next best indicator is your skin. Your skin loses water by sweating when it’s hot and you can lose moisture through skin in cooler weather because the air is drier.

Check your skin for signs of dehydration such as roughness or flaking, flushing or redness, cracked skin or lips, cold or clammy skin, or tightening or shrinking.

While we’d like to think we’re intaking our required amount of H2O every day, we wonder if this is actually contributing to better skin health, or if it’s just a widespread myth we’ve come to accept as gospel.

Does drinking H20 really give us glowy skin?

According to dermatologists, while drinking water is important for overall health, there’s a lack of research actually proving water consumption impacts skin hydration or overall appearance in people who are healthy.

The actual physics behind how water flows throughout our systems shows that drinking water is necessary for our bodies to run optimally, and to help nutrients reach the skin through proper blood flow, but not necessarily the be-all and end-all we need for dewy skin. When we drink water, it doesn’t go directly to the skin.

Instead it hydrates cells once absorbed into the bloodstream and filtered by the kidneys. At the cellular level drinking water is great for flushing the system and hydrating our bodies overall.

That said, we know keeping your skin hydrated does boost your complexion so here are a few healthy daily habits to keep in mind.

  • Use a gentle cleanser as opposed to soap
  • Steer clear of skincare products that contain alcohol
  • Avoid exposure to dry air. If possible, use a humidifier
  • Avoid long hot showers, washing dishes without gloves & limit exposure to heavily chlorinated water.

How deep is your hydration

Since hydration is essential to keeping your skin glowing and looking plump, skin hydration comes down to one thing: how much hyaluronic acid is in your skin cells.

Hyaluronic acid holds water that makes your complexion appear healthier and more vibrant.

Bad news is that there is only so much that skincare products can do to hydrate your skin on the surface level.

So, while drinking water on a regular basis is good for flushing out our system, there are some effective treatments that can significantly boost your skin hydration.

Hydration injections : Hyaluronic to the rescue

Injectable moisturisers and skin boosters are generally hyaluronic acid based solutions that are injected into the skin to improve the skin of face, neck, décolletage and hands. They can rejuvenate and hydrate the dermis.

Hyaluronic acid, known for its natural moisturising factor found in skin and joints has the ability to draw 1000 times its own weight in water, means it ideal for binding and retaining water molecules. And it can also diminish fine lines and improve glow and skin quality.

Back to basics

Finally, good old-fashioned facials are perfect for those with congested and dehydrated skin, open pores or for anyone wanting a softer, smoother, more youthful look.

From reducing blackheads and pimples, redness, a hydrating facial is something you can do effortlessly and regularly. You and your pores will come out looking and feeling refreshed and hydrated.

Happy hour

So now that you know how to lock in all that moisture, you’re ready to go out for that drink. Oh and guess what, the pubs are finally open! Just remember to drink one glass of water for every glass of wine 😉 Cheers!
